Insightful Conversation in a Gilded Setting
Gather in the mansion’s grand parlor for lively, thought-provoking discussion.
Sip, Savor & Socialize
Enjoy themed drinks and light bites while connecting with fellow readers.*
Step into the parlor and join us for an evening where conversation flows as easily as the wine. The Conrad-Caldwell House Museum invites you to gather once a month for The St. James Literary Society, a spirited book club that blends literature, history, and lively discussion within the elegant surroundings of Old Louisville’s most storied mansion.

Each month, attendees will explore a new thought-provoking read that connects, directly or daringly, to the Victorian, Edwardian, or Progressive eras. From daring reformers and social upheaval to the quiet rebellions that shaped modern life, every book invites conversation, curiosity, and connection.

Meetings are held on the last Wednesday of each month, when members gather to discuss the current selection while enjoying a themed drink and light bites inspired by the evening’s book. At each meeting, participants will also receive the following month’s book, ensuring there’s always a new story waiting on your nightstand.

Whether you’re a lifelong reader, a lover of history, or simply seeking a new kind of Wednesday escape, The St. James Literary Society offers an experience where every chapter ends with great company, meaningful conversation, and a toast to curiosity.
